Fishing pressure is low, walleye is closed and some nice
perch are being caught. Had some regulars up and they were doing OK. Fifty
plus perch ranging from 14 to 11 inches, fishing in twenty three feet of
water with wigglers and small minnows. Recent snows put the end to quads,
making slush around the fish shacks and new holes not very nice to negotiate.
This is our last report for the the hard water season as we head south for
our spring vacation next week. Will be back for the walleye opener so will
talk with you then, it should be another good one. Things should continue
to improve now till ice out. Eighteen inches of good ice in most areas being
reported. Reminder Spring Walleye Tourney is May 19th & 20th, book early
to get the room you want. We’re closing March 11 for our spring vacation
but will still answer the phone. In the meantime we want to again thank
all of you that shared your fishing & snowmobiling time with us we appreciate
it. Remember Walleye season closed the end of February, Good fishing, Smitty

Had some of
the regulars up for a few days, they normally do well and they had a bad
trip with only a couple of fish. The fish were there but would not hit.
Having the camera and high teak electronics made it all the more frustrating,
seeing the big perch swim up to your bait , then swim off had them wound
up and when the perch is over 16 inches, is mouthing your bait…. you
get the picture. In the good old days you figured they not biting and that
was that no frustration. Then the rookies to our lake showed up caught 15
nice perch two days later. But the high pressure had moved off and things
had warmed up & I think that was the difference. Things should continue
to improve now till ice out. Eighteen inches of good ice in most areas being
reported. Reminder Spring Walleye Tourney is May 19th & 20th, book early

The cold weather hangs on with some high wind chill numbers again this week.
Fishing pressure was very light and fishing was very slow. Had a sixteen
inch perch caught, a few nice ‘eyes and some smaller perch but a lot
of effort was put in. Also had a case where the guys had a close call with
carbon monoxide poisoning making them very sick. Make sure your equipment
is in top shape and used properly, and that you let enough air into the
shack every once and a while. It’s easy to make it air tight in this
severe cold so great care must be taken. I think the bigger perch are starting
to move into the trough, so will see how this week goes. We have some regulars
in who will put on a good chase, so we will see how they do. Temps look
a little better but still on the cold side for this week. The sun has a
little more warming power so that helps a little. Remember Walleye season

Nothing to report this week very cold temps and wind chills at -35. I bet
we are making a lot of good ice though. This has been one of the best years
for quality ice anyway so the late season should be a long one. Remember
the Second Annual Spring Walleye Tourney, May 19th & 20th. Starting
time is 8 a.m. eastern time and continuing till check out at 1 p.m. eastern
time on the 20th. Entry fee is the same as last year $35 per person. Call
early to get the accommodations you are looking for. Remember if you are
fishing in these extreme wind chills, make sure you consider frost bite.
It will burn any exposed skin in a very short time. The number, quantity
and quality of the fish caught this winter lead me to believe that the spring
tournament will be even better than last year. Hope all is well on your
end of the line. Remember Walleye season closes the end of February, Good

Some real nice catches of perch coming off the ice as the hunt begins in
earnest. Depth around 22ft in the mud flats wigglers on a small jig. If
you are planning to mount a 15 or larger perch take a few pictures and turn
it loose to do it’s thing, it will help the lake a great deal. There
has been enough 12 & 13’s to make a nice meal. The walleye are
sill in the bay and playing the hot hole game so move around a little is
my advice. Early and late are your best bet in eight feet of water, with
medium minnows. Not often you see trucks on Gogebic but we saw two this
week. We recommend quads or snowmobiles from our place. Sorry no room 1st
till 3rd. Get some new blades for the auger these cold nights made some
ice. Bring a friend and come chase some fish around you are sure to have
a good time. Remember Walleye season closes the end of February, Good fishing,

Lodge Fishing Report:
January 09, 2007
Another week, another mixed bag of a reports coming off the ice.
Had a couple
guys who knew how to fish, had the equipment and worked very hard and had
very
poor results. The next group knows very little has basic equipment
and hits 13
nice ?eyes. Last night the walleye were quiet till 2 am and hit till
8 am. Big
perch are on the cameras but won?t hit, but had some smaller ones more than
eager to taste the bait. Lots of pike this week but ?no monsters?
reported.
Should be making more ice with the recent cold weather and the strong winds
should help keep the recent snow off. Bay fishing is best around eight
feet.
Live baits are your best bet, wigglers for the perch and minnows for the
rest.
Sorry no rooms Jan. 11 to 13 and very limited 17 to 20 Good luck, good fishing
&

Fishing has been hot the last few days and reports seem to indicate it’s all over the lake. Depths very from 7 to 22 feet so not much help there. Minnows continue to be the hot bait, and jigging is starting to pay off. Ice is from 5 to 10 inches from the reports I have received, with six inches of snow cover. 4 by 4 quads, snowmobiles & good old boots are all working fine. It still pays to move till you find the fish, no fish in half and hour move. Warm weather has made the fishing easy and has been enjoyed by all. Good luck good fishing & remember Walleye closes the end of February, Good fishing, Smitty & D. Walleye Lodge & Motel. Toll free 1-866-464-3242

Most reports put the ice at four to five inches. Can’t give much of a report as it’s a mixed bag out there on the ice. Never has it been so prevalent that one hole is the hot hole and all else is slow. Over all it has slowed a little and that could be due to the heavy snow fall this week. So keep moving till you find that hole!! One group had six tip up’s out and had 13 flags all in the same hole, Gary the shack out front said the same thing, everything is in the same hole. A mixed bag of perch, gills and eyes, so go figure. No northern stories this week. The snowmobilers are out in force cutting out their winter highways, and you can still get around with a 4w quad. Have a Happy New Year and hope to meet you soon. Reminder Walleye closes the end of February, Good fishing, Smitty & D. Walleye Lodge & Motel. Toll free 1-866-464-3242

Walleye Lodge
INTRODUCTION (If you have read this part before go straight to the report): Hi. I’m Smitty owner of the Walleye Lodge located on the north shore of beautiful Lake Gogebic. (Go-ge-bic) Gogebic is the largest lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan located in the western end with about fourteen thousand acres of water to play on. My reports generally include the north end of the lake, and Bergland Bay where we are located. We are primarily a Walleye lake with some real nice jumbo perch, and an under fished supply of small mouth bass, and some huge northern (forty six inch, twenty six lbs. last year with a nickname like Jaws!!!) Depths can reach forty feet in the deep trough on the east shore or try the huge table in the middle running around twenty-three feet. Bergland Bay's main attractions offer protection from the big winds and beautiful weed beds, which make for some great year round fishing. www.walleyelodge.com 1 866-464 3242

Walleye Lodge Fishing Report:
Well ice fishing has started in earnest as several seasonal shanties hit the ice today. Ice is around four inches in most areas in the bay but caution should be used as always with first ice conditions. It’s nice to see the shacks out front of our living room and kitchen it is great being right on the lake and seeing our guests faces as they first take in this great view. We had one fisherman, Bob, just leave with one hard luck story about a nice ‘eye that got off at the hole, but got a few others and one nice perch. Had a mixed bag of hits but most of the action was on minnows? Not much snow on the lake and the cold nights should continue to make some good ice. We went from a quiet x-mas (just D & I) to a house full, as the kids decided to come home for the holidays after all. That got grandma & grandpa smiling and scrambling to find a tree, cookies, plan some meals etc. Had a great week so far having partridge, for super Monday, and my favorite rabbit tonight. So now we are ready for some fresh fish. Hope to have it figured out so we can save our guest fishermen some time and have some family time on the ice when the crew gets here. Have a Happy Holiday and hope to meet you soon. Reminder Walleye closes the end of February, Good fishing, Smitty & D. Walleye Lodge & Motel. Toll free 1-866-464-3242
